Car boot sale in Splott this Saturday

Head to the back of the STAR Centre on Splott Road this weekend to bag a bargain!

Local charity Splott Community Volunteers has responded to the loss of Splott Market by introducing a series of car boot sales in their car park this summer, with the first taking place this Saturday, the 18th May, between 9am and 12 noon.

With all the spaces sold out, it’s set to be a super morning of thrift shopping.

But it’s not only about selling second hand goods. Project Manager, Lynne Thomas (yes, that’s me!), explained that the charity was reacting to people feeling the loss of more than just a market:

“We’ve been told by so many people that they used to go to Splott Market on the weekend to meet friends and catch up over a cuppa and a bacon bap just as much as they loved a mooch around the market. They miss that interaction.

We thought it would be a good idea to try and bring a little bit of that feeling back to Splott with some boot sales of our own. Our volunteers will be bringing their usual bubbly enthusiasm and help out on the day, cooking up breakfast baps and making hot drinks to sell out of our kitchen, so that people can connect and catch up as well as browse for a bargain.”

The boot sales will run once a month until October. If you would like a stall at the next market, it will be held on Saturday the 15th June and will be coupled with a Pollinator Party funded by WWF Cymru’s 2024 Community Grants scheme where the charity will be giving away plants that help bees, butterflies and other insects to improve biodiversity in Splott (more on this to follow!).

Email info@splottcommunityvolunteers.co.uk to book a stall (cars cost £10 each and tables £5).
