This week Inksplott is excited to interview local dog grooming expert, Shannon, about her business, Velvet Leash Dog Grooming (warning: this article contains super cute photos of doggies that will make you go ‘awwwwwww!’ out loud).
Inksplott: Hi Shannon, thank you for being interviewed for Inksplott. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your business, Velvet Leash Dog Grooming?
Shannon: Hi! My name is Shannon, and I’m the owner of Velvet Leash Dog Grooming, based in Railway Gardens on Adeline Street in Splott. I’m a professional dog groomer and absolutely love working with dogs. I have my own cosy salon where I welcome dogs of all breeds and sizes. I offer a wide range of grooming services to help keep every dog looking and feeling their best.

Inksplott: How did you get into this? Can you tell us a little about the history of your business?
Shannon: I’ve always been the biggest dog lover and knew I wanted to work with dogs. I trained at Mucky Puppy Dog Grooming School and graduated in November. After completing my training, I followed my dream and opened Velvet Leash Dog Grooming in April 2026. Owning my own salon has been everything I hoped it would be.
Inksplott: And how come the business is in Splott?
Shannon: I chose Splott because it’s such a lovely, close-knit community, and there are so many dog owners here. It’s a friendly area where people really support local businesses, and I’ve felt so welcomed since opening.
Inksplott: How much does it cost for your products/services?
Shannon: My prices vary depending on the dog’s breed, size and coat type. I offer full grooms, mini grooms, puppy introduction grooms, Emmi-Pet ultrasonic teeth cleaning, nail clipping, ear cleaning, de-shedding, de-matting, bath and blow dries, bath and tidy-ups, and more. Prices are available on my website, or customers are always welcome to message me for an accurate quote.

Inksplott: What’s your best story since setting up the business?
Shannon: One of the most rewarding parts of the job has been building relationships with my regular dogs. Seeing nervous dogs gradually learn to trust me and become excited to come back is such a special feeling. Watching that confidence grow makes everything worthwhile.

Inksplott: Tell us a secret or something about Splott that we won’t know.
Shannon: I’d say Railway Gardens! A lot of people tell me they never knew it was here until they visited my salon. It’s a lovely little spot that’s definitely worth discovering.
Inksplott: Any exciting plans or events on the horizon?
Shannon: Nothing specific at the moment, but I’m always looking to grow and improve the business. My goal is to continue building a great reputation, welcome more lovely dogs through the doors, and work towards an even bigger and better future.

Inksplott: How can people follow you online? Do you have Facebook, Instagram or a website?
Shannon: You can find me on Facebook and Instagram by searching Velvet Leash Dog Grooming, and you can also visit my website at www.velvetleashdoggrooming.it.com. I’d love to hear from you, whether you’re looking to book an appointment or just want to follow my grooming journey!
Inksplott: Thank you Shannon. Good luck with your business!
