Looking for kid-friendly activities in Splott, Adamsdown and Tremorfa this summer? You’re in luck!
There’s so much going on in our part of Cardiff this August, it’s hard to keep track of it all. So here’s a handy article listing all the free stuff by date. If there are any missing, please get in touch and I’ll add them to the article.
Wednesday 6th August – Magical Creatures of Cardiff at Railway Gardens
Wow, what an amazing activity right here in Splott!
Calling all your artists, illustrators, doodlers, and anyone who loves getting creative! Come and join artist and illustrator Jack Skivens, author of Night Of The Animal Wall to design your own mystical monster or legendary creature, inspired by your favourite bits of Cardiff. REGISTER HERE.
This event is part of our Enchanted Earth summer programme and there’s lots more to enjoy! See our full community programme here.
Good to know…
- Suitable for ages 6+
- Adults must stay with their children for the whole session – but no need to book tickets for any adults attending
- Registration is optional, you can drop in… but if you can register it really helps us out! By registering you’re helping us plan for numbers, understand how people find out about our events, and contact you if there’s any changes to the event.
- This event is free for residents of Splott, Adamsdown and Tremorfa, for asylum seekers and refugees, and for families living in supported accommodation. Otherwise we ask you to make a small donation. Thank you.
- The cafe will be open for lunch, snacks, and drinks, but you’re also welcome to bring a picnic!
- We have baby changing facilities
- We love it when people are able to walk, wheel, or bike to us! We have bike racks, don’t forget to bring your lock. Our friends at Cardiff People First have made some videos explaining how to find us from Newport Road and the City Circle Bus Stop – you can find those here
- There is ample parking in the streets directly outside Railway Gardens
Who is leading this session?

Jack is a Cardiff-based artist and illustrator and the author of ‘Night of The Animal Wall’ which sees the creature’s of Cardiff’s much loved animal wall visiting some familiar landmarks around the city.
(I’ve worked with Jack before and he is an incredible illustrator – if you see this article in time, this is one not to miss!)
There’s loads more going on at Railway Gardens over the summer hols (Railway Gardens is at the top of Adeline Street, next to the old Cardiff Arms pub just off Railway St in case you weren’t sure).

From Sunday 10th August – free play activities
Here’s the roundup from No Fit State Community for activities commencing on the 10th August:

Saturday 16th August – SCV 10 Year Anniversary Party
It’s hard to believe that it was a decade ago that Splott Community Volunteers held their big fundraiser in Moorland Park to raise money to start a food poverty charity, but believe it or not, a decade has passed and the charity has gone from strength to strength.
On Saturday the 16th August, they will hold a celebration of their 10 year anniversary and there’s plenty for families to enjoy.
There will be free face painting, bouncy castles, circus activities and more, including music performances by local artists and an appearance by Splott Nessa to open proceedings at 12noon (if you haven’t seen her, do yourself a favour and pop along – she’s cowing lush!).
As well as the free stuff, there will be Caribbean food, burgers, hot dogs, nachos, vegan and veggie food as well as an ICE CREAM VAN AND A CANDY FLOSS MACHINE!!!
Don’t miss out – head to the back of the STAR Centre (through the gates on Railway Street) on the afternoon of the 16th.

26th – 29th August – Inclusive Dance at Rubicon
Adamsdown’s amazing Rubicon Dance is holding inclusive holiday sessions for children aged 7-15 years from the 26th to the 29th August.
All of their summer holiday programmes are “pay what you feel” as finance should never be a barrier for anyone attending a dance session with Rubicon. As a registered charity every penny helps them keep organising dance sessions for all ages and abilities so if you are able to pay, they would suggest £5.00 per day, but this is optional and you can attend for free.
Inclusive Dance Mornings (Ages 7–15)
Everyone is welcome at our Inclusive Dance Mornings!
These sessions offer a safe and supportive space for young people of all abilities to explore movement, build confidence, and express themselves through dance.
