Local project Growing Street Talk has launched a street light project to brighten up our streets and it launches this weekend!

Winter’s setting in and the days are getting darker. Let’s face it for most of us it hasn’t been the best year!
We think it’s time to bring on some seasonal cheer so, we’re inviting you and your neighbours to light up your street by creating your own light display and joining in with our switch on event.
It’s a simple idea – just decorate your house frontage or front garden with some pretty lights. Go all out with a big display or keep it small with a string of fairy lights. Size isn’t important – what matters is joining us to light up the streets of Grangetown and Splott.
It’s an exciting way to do something as a family and your neighbours, socially distanced of course! Even if you’ve already put your lights up you can still join in.

Our plan is to have a virtual countdown on Zoom for the street switch on at 5.45pm Sunday 6th of December. If you wish, stand outside your house and share the experience with your neighbours.
If you’d like to join in, select ‘going’ on our Facebook event page and post your street (no street numbers please) in the discussion so you can see which streets are involved in your area. If you would prefer to direct message us that’s fine too.

Good news! using low energy LED bulbs with rechargeable batteries is a great way to create a lovely display and still be green. Use outdoor lights and cables if you’re plugging into your electricity supply.
Please be aware that people who suffer from photosensitive epilepsy can be badly affected by fast-flashing or strobe-effect lights – in some instances experiencing potentially fatal seizures.
