Planning application to demolish Splott’s A1 Tyres

Much loved business, A1 Tyres, is under threat as the landlord would like to demolish the building to make way for a five bedroom HMO (house of multiple occupancy).

A planning application has been submitted to Cardiff Council by the landlord of 10 Splott Road to demolish the existing buildings and erect a two-storey house of multiple occupancy (five bed HMO).

If planning permission is granted, A1 Tyres would be given notice and yet another business in Splott would close.

A HMO, or House of Multiple Occupation, is a building or part of a building occupied by at least three unrelated people from more than one household, who share amenities like a kitchen, bathroom, or toilet. This category includes shared houses, bedsits, hostels, and some converted self-contained flats

The landlord had previously applied for planning permission for a seven bed HMO, but planning was declined.

In line with planning rules, the public has the right to make a comment on the planning portal supporting or objecting to the application during a consultation period (which ends this Friday, 31st October).

If you would like to comment, in favour or against, you have to log in to the planning portal.

You can find the application here.
