Spooky Splott!

With Halloween around the corner, and the pumpkins ripening in their patches, there’s a scream of spooky (and not-so-spooky) activities in Splott and surrounding areas this October.

Read on for a list of what you can access right on your doorstep.

It’s back! The next community singalong will be on Friday 9th October from 1.30pm to 3pm. Join choir leader Ruth for a fun afternoon of shanties, folk, country and pop music (maybe the Monster Mash!). Open to all.

Plenty of bargains to be had at the next SCV jumble sale, held in the sports hall at the back of the old STAR Centre in Splott (entrance through the gates on Railway Street, opposite A1 tyres – walk around the container and enter through the fire doors at the side of the building).

Friday 16th October at Splott Community Volunteers – Cwtsh Canteen

Pasta bake and garlic bread by Gillian and music & karaoke with the amazing Francesca Dimech – the second Comic Relief funded Cwtsh Canteen is set to be a knock out!

Saturday 24th October with Keep Splott Tidy – Halloween Litter Pick

Every year, the Wombles of Splott mount their pickers and ride into a local park to give litter a right scare!

Join them between 10am and 12noon to make a difference. All equipment provided. The only thing you have to bring is yourself, in fancy dress. The fancy dress isn’t mandatory, but is encouraged! Kids in fancy dress get treats. Adults out of fancy dress rightly get the derision of the organisers.

Meet at Moorland Park (Swansea Street entrance) at 10am.

Friday 30th November at Splott Community Volunteers – Forgotten Foods Cafe

This year, Splott Community Volunteers is getting involved in the Autumn Festival again with Forgotten Foods Café.

They’ll be offering tasters and sharing easy recipes showing how cheap, seasonal vegetables can be turned into delicious meals.

They’re particularly interested in the vegetables people often ignore or don’t know what to do with. We’ll also have a table of donated cookbooks, and everyone who comes along will be able to choose one to take home for free.

Participants will get to try a few dishes, get a recipe to take home, and then get a cookbook as well. Hopefully you’ll be inspired to have a go yourself!

Friday October 30th at Boomerang PIF – Halloween Party

Friday – Halloween Party – 5-7PM – Bouncy castle, Tombola, face painting, games

As usual, Splotties, Adamsdownians and Termorfans, I’m sure there’s loads of cool events I’ve missed – please let me know and I’ll add them to the list.
