Walking marathon to stroll through Splott later today

While many will be watching the London Marathon this morning, there’s an alternative taking place in Cardiff for a very good cause.

Last year, Nic Clarke and Richard Melhuish had the idea of walking a 26.2 mile route around Cardiff on the day of the London Marathon to raise funds for Cancer Research Wales.

The event was so successful that they’ve decided to do it again!

Writing on the fundraising page, Nic said:

“After the fantastic day out Richard and I had last year on our virtual London Marathon around Cardiff in 2023…..this year we are doing it all over again……and this time we have a few more people taking on the challenge with us.

On 21 April 2024 we will be completing our 26.2 mile, with a mixture of running and walking in aid of Cancer Research Wales.

Your support will help make sure that the people of Wales do not have to accept cancer as a life-threatening disease. Cancer Research Wales are supporting the best cancer researchers and clinicians to make discoveries which will transform lives.

So if you can support us or if you want join us for the whole thing or just for a few km – we are all very grateful.”

“It’s that time of year again. We will be taking on the challenge of 26.2 miles on the streets of Cardiff. There will be a bigger team this year, starting and finishing at Roath park lighthouse at 9am on Sunday 21st April.

As last year, we are raising much needed funds for Cancer Research Wales. If anyone would like to donate, I’ve attached the link to our just giving page.”

The team will be coming along Railway street from the bay between 3pm and 4pm, hopefully, calling into Railway Gardens then along to Moorland road past The Royal Oak then to Roath Park to finish.

If you’re in the area, pop outside and give them a wave as they walk by!
