Spring brings back the bowlers to Splott Park

Splott Phoenix Bowls Club continue to bring the community together, with some great sport and social events throughout summer months.  Club Secretary, Martyn Watts, tells us more:


We have once again gained promotion in the Cardiff & District Municipal Bowling league, this is the 3rd time in the past seven years. We are small friendly club who play at Splott Park throughout the summer months and we continue to welcome new members to the sport of bowls, whether you are a seasoned player or you would just like to have a go at bowls our doors are always open, starting in early April and bowling up to late September you will find something for all, there are no age restrictions, all are welcome.

You can come along any Thursday evening from 5.00pm and try the game of bowls for free, the club will supply all  equipment  needed to get on the green and have a go, flat shoes must be worn, trainers are ideal.

We run taster courses throughout the season for all skill levels, bowls is a easy to learn and fun to play, you can join as a social members which entitles you to play bowls at Splott Park all summer, then, if you want you can take out full membership, which entitles you to all we have to offer, whether you want to play for fun or at a competitive level and join the club team is up to you.

Our club base is the New Fleurs Sports & Social Club, 2 Portmanmoor Road, this is where we take our after match hospitality, Phil and Debbie provide all players with an after match meal, all are welcome where this is a great family atmosphere.

At the moment we only run an all-male team, but we are in the middle of starting a ladies team, we have lady members who play for the club in friendly mixed fixtures and also take part in club bowls at Splott Park, the more lady members we have the more chance of getting together an all ladies side to play league games.
