Transport for Wales is exploring potential options for a new public transport link between Cardiff Central and Newport Road, via the Cardiff Bay line and Porth Teigr. These include potential stations along Moorland Road and on Lewis Road in Splott.
According to information published on the Transport for Wales website, a new public transport link from Cardiff Central to Newport Road via the Bay has long been an ambition of both Transport for Wales (TfW), the Welsh Government and Cardiff Council.
The link would be a future stage of improvements following the completion of the Butetown station and the planned upgrades to the Cardiff Bay line and Cardiff Bay station and would be subject to securing funding.
A seven-week consultation launched on the 12th December 2022 and will close on the 30th January 2023 with public and stakeholders invited to take part.
Corridor options will be presented to the public and wider feedback obtained. The findings from the consultation will inform the outline business case for a potential future line extension from Cardiff Central to Newport Road, so that a proposal can be prepared.
For the options proposed, see images below, taken from the Transport For Wales public engagement document.
Following the findings report from the consultation, Transport for Wales will look to reduce the number of route options to one, with a view to proceed with planning, subject to funding being secured.
You can learn more about the project by joining workshops and drop-in sessions. To find out how you can get involved, visit tfw.wales/engagement.
There is an online consultation on the 23rd January from 5pm to 5.30pm taking part on Teams. Click on the link above and select the Cardiff drop down menu for more information.
