Leaving party for current Cottage landlords on 29th April

Matthew and Allison Wheeler, current landlords of Splott pub The Cottage, are inviting Splottlanders to their leaving party on Friday 29th April from 7pm.

The Cottage has been up for let and owners Admiral Tavern have found new tenants who will take over management of the Sanquhar Street pub on the 9th of May.

The Cottage was painted bright pink last autumn in preparation for a street party to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.  According to Admiral Taverns, the pub will be repainted soon.

Current landlord and landlady have been managers since November 2014 and have held a number of community events and fundraisers over the years.

One of the more quirky initiatives includes saying ‘Spartacus’ to receive a free shot back in June 2014!

Matthew and Allison told Inksplott: “We hoped to turn The Cottage into a safe community pub, which we achieved (we hope, lol).  The locals have been fab!  We’ve had our ups and downs but we all laugh about them now.  Best moments for us?  All of it really – it’s been a great experience and we have had a lot of fun.  We are giving it up as we feel we cannot do any more with the pub and miss our families and grandchildren.  We just hope the new owners keep it friendly and trouble free and help the community as a lot of our customers are OAPs and find shopping hard.  It would be great to see you all on Friday night xx”.

Inksplott wishes Matthew and Allison good luck for the future and would like to thank them for all their hard work in keeping a community pub alive and vibrant, something much needed in Splott with all the recent pub closures.

Good luck guys!
